"Adobe Stairs at Noon" is a plein air watercolor done at California's Sonoma Historic Park, a collection of adobe buildings from the 1830's, when California was a part of Mexico. I painted this during a 100'+ heatwave and I wanted to convey a sense of heat and glare. I found a shaded spot to set up and paint, showing the color blanching effect of sunlight, and that shade did not give relief from the heat.
