This gentleman was sitting in a Parisian cafe. As I walked by his facial expression grabbed my attention so I snapped a photo. When I returned home the one photo I had of him was very blurry. I think, in the end, that added to the painting's charm in that I had to make most of it up! I relied on shapes to create the background. The midday light helped provide his glow. I think his simple expression became the painting's focus. He exudes contentment and happiness.
