Over the winter holidays, I traveled with my family to St. Lucia. I was fascinated by pairs and groups of people on the beach, and the spaces created between them as they moved. I watched these negative spaces with fascination - while their seemingly-constant bodies moved and shifted, it was the negative spaces between them that went through greater change. I was mesmerized by the gaps between them and sketched a lot on the beach. The next morning, when I saw them at breakfast, I felt such an affinity and familiarity with them that I felt I had known them forever.
