Some of my favourite adventures are on the water. My husband and I love to sea kayak on the beautiful coastlines that we have here in the United Kingdom. I was out kayaking with my husband and two of our friends this summer on the coast of Dorset, England, and snapped a photo from my boat of the beautiful Bat's Head cliff and Bat's Cave. The person on the kayak in the foreground is my husband who is taking in the whole scene before padding through the Cave. This painting was intended as a complimentary colour study, however having already done a couple single-colour studies, I felt I was ready to commit to my favourite paper, Arches 140lb rough. I'm glad I did: the resulting 'study' worked really well as a dramatic interpretation of the day. I painting it in two colours: Cobalt Blue and Indian Yellow, and added clouds in white gouache to increase the drama and keep viewers moving around the composition.
