VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
NWWS thrives because of member participation. The contribution of an hour or a few hours each month by our members sustains our energy and maintains NWWS as a leading arts organization. Please indicate below where your talents and availability might be best used, and thank you! Below is a list of positions and jobs that need to be done for NWWS to be a successful society.

Artist Zoom Room
The AZR team finds guest critique artists, organizes, directs the Zoom meeting, and promotes awareness and participation in this popular online critique event. Can easily be remote volunteer position(s) within the Pacific time zone Technical skills needed: Zoom confidence and typical computer skills
Awards
The awards team communicates and maintains our relationships with valued patrons, securing cash and merchandise donations. Awards are organized and distributed after our twice-yearly exhibitions. New patrons are sought and encouraged to partner with NWWS. Skills: Good communicator, organized, and typical computer skills
Data Manager
The data manager manages membership records, Mailchimp administration, and other important tasks such as fulfilling special data requests. Tech skills: Access Database, Excel, Mailchimp, Zoom, and typical computer skills Other skills: Very organized, detailed record management abilities, strong communication skills, and ability to work independently
Exhibitions
As of Jan. 22, our exhibitions are online. There are a variety of ways to assist, including scheduling, prospectus editing, communicating with artists, working with the juror, image management, administration, coordinating the awards reception, and much more. An experienced team is in place to welcome volunteers who would love to be a part of exhibition success. Hospitality and Events
Conceive and develop occasional, in-person, member social events in the greater Seattle area to encourage camaraderie and creativity. A great opportunity that is all about fun. Tech skills: Typical computer skills Other skills: Creative, budget minded, personable, good communicator, and organized
Grant Writer
Research available grants, prepare applications, and follow-through. Can easily be a remote volunteer position Tech skills: Typical computer skills Other skills: Detail-oriented, organized, thorough
Historian
Our history is collected either as physical items or worthy electronic files, organized, and occasionally transported to the University of Washington archives / Seattle, WA.
Membership
The membership team organizes “Welcome” packets for new members, reaches out by telephone to welcome them, answers membership questions, and promotes NWWS membership and its benefits. Tech skills: Typical computer skills
Newsletter "Hot Press"
A creative space allowing the editor and team to guide the design and content of our very popular newsletter, published online four times per year. Contributions from those who are writers, coordinators, organizers, proofreaders, graphic designers, graphic production designers, and more is welcome. Tell us what you are best at! Northwest Watercolor Foundation (NWWF)
The foundation is a separate entity from NWWS and is a 501(c)3 non-profit. Officers and Board members attend periodic foundation board meetings (as of Jan. 2022, via Zoom), coordinate, promote, jury, and award yearly art scholarship(s), and manage the “Art for Kids” school program. Tech skill: Typical computer skills
Programs
Programs coordination includes researching artists who meet the high standards of NWWS as guest demo artist for one of eight general meetings per year. This includes communications, administration, preparation for Zoom or in-person introduction of the artist. Tech skills: Zoom video and typical computer skills Other skills: Personable, effective writing and communication skills, attention to detail
Samish Island "Paint Out"
The “Paint Out” team plans three, 4-day overnight camps per year near Seattle, including scheduling with the facility, budgeting, registrations, communications, promotion, on-site responsibilities, activities, and any special guests during the camp. Tech skills: Typical computer skills
Permanent Collection Coordinator
NWWS purchases one painting each year and it is delivered for hanging to the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center / Seattle, WA. The collection’s records are held by the coordinator.
Photographer
Events, including exhibition awards receptions, general meetings, and others, are photographed to become historical record, for event promotion, and for our website. Tech skills: photography experience and typical computer skills
Plein Air Coordinator
The plein air program begins in the Spring and ends in the Fall. The coordinator finds plein air locations, plans the schedule, communicates with participants, and attracts new participants. Tech skills: Typical computer skills
Public Art Coordinator
The art display at Overlake Hospital / Bellevue, WA is rotated three times per year, and volunteers are on-site to assist with art intake and outgo. Planning for the display includes communications with the website liaison and artists, accepting digital art submissions, coordination with the hospital, and assisting with sold paintings. Tech skills: Typical computer skills
Publicity & Social Media
Our public relations umbrella includes the social media team and its postings, exhibition advertising, press releases for exhibiting artists, and other creative ways to promote NWWS. Special search for: graphic designer for four social media platforms. Can easily be remote volunteer position(s) Tech skills: Enhanced typical computer skills
Secretary (Recording)
Attend BOD meetings, record NWWS discussions and decisions, and submit for approval. Tech skills: Word or Pages plus typical computer skills
Secretary (Corresponding)
Attend the Board of Directors meetings and initiate social correspondence. Receive, review, approve, and congratulate new Signature Members. Tech skills: Typical computer skills Other skills: Interpersonal and effective writing
Technical Consultant
Guide, advise, research, and answer questions about the best use of technology with focus on website development and efficiencies. Your experience and awareness will assist as we plan, budget, and adapt. Can easily be remote volunteer position(s)
Treasurer
Prepare monthly/annual financial reports, Board of Director presentations, track income/expenses, maintain payables/receivables, prepare and file yearly tax returns, oversee nonprofit documentation, insurance, and related administration. Tech skills: QuickBooks fluent, Excel, and typical computer skills Other skills: Organized and detail-oriented
Video Consultant
Guide, advise, research, and answer questions about the best use of video recording technology and equipment with focus on a manageable, fiscally conservative method of streaming general meetings and art demonstrations, and create recordings. Your experience and awareness will assist as we plan, budget, and adapt. Can easily be remote volunteer position(s)
Video Technician
As of Jan. 2022, our general meetings are online only. As we plan for eventual in-person meetings, the video technician(s) sets up, takes down, maintains, and stores the equipment. At the venue, the technician works with the demo artist to ensure an impactful presentation.
Volunteer Coordinator
Coordination includes maintaining records of members who wish to volunteer and matching them with a fulfilling role. Newsletter articles are written announcing volunteer opportunities and to thank those who volunteer. Tech skills: Typical computer skills Other skills: Personable and organized
Venues Coordinator
The venues team finds viable venues for meetings, special events, gallery exhibitions and workshops, consults with the Board of Directors for approvals, and coordinates the rental or use agreements. Tech skills: Typical computer skills Other skills: Personable and able to personally visit all potential venues
Webmaster
The webmaster partners with the website liaison to keep website content updated, create and revise pages and graphics, build and test forms, and everything that needs to be coordinated with NWWS events. Can be a remote volunteer position within the Pacific time zone.
Website Liason
Aware of NWWS plans and activities, the team maintains the schedule of events, triggers updates to all content, creates new pages per NWWS needs, initiates event marketing with website graphics, content and eblasts, communicates with website developer, and much more. Tech skills: Production art application(s), Mailchimp, Excel, and typical computer skills. Other skills: Writing with brevity and clarity, keen marketing sense, graphic design skills, sense of urgency
Workshops
NWWS hosts one 4-day online workshop (Fall) and two 2-day online workshops (Spring). As of Jan. 2022, no in-person workshops are planned. The workshop coordinator(s) may participate in the workshops at no charge with their workshop tasks as priority. Working with renowned artists, the team creates a promotional schedule, provides content for website, manages registrations, communicates with attendees, is involved with the webinar setup, and more. Can easily be remote volunteer position(s), best within the Pacific time zone. Tech skills: Zoom Webinar and typical computer skills. Other skills: Organized, writing skills, detail-oriented, and personable.

Our new Member Connect platform is designed to connect you to other NWWS members in your geographical area. With these new connections, you may organize one time or repeating art or social events such as plein air or weekly/monthly paint togethers. Online events are an option, too. Initiate an event or find an event. It’s up to you!
