NWWS is delighted to bring the brilliance of Jed Dorsey to our Artist Zoom Room on April 10, 2023. Many NWWS members work in several mediums, so this demo will be a treat for acrylic artists and encouragment for others to try this very versatile watermedia.
Jed represents the fourth generation of artists in his family. His father, Jack Dorsey, is also a professional, well known artist. Like many artists, Jed was painting at an early age and selling paintings as young as age eleven.
Jed and his family traditionally pursued watercolor, but gallery hopping in Canada exposed him to the intriguing brilliance of acrylic and it was instantly appealing. That very week began his exciting journey with acrylics. He painted for many years as a secondary pursuit, but became a full time artist in 2016. He loves how light changes objects such as common garbage cans, buildings, plants trees–everything. Filtered sunlight shining through trees onto a road, river, sidewalk, or path is favorite subject matter. Having lived in both rural and urban locations he sees beauty in both lush landscapes and structured cityscapes. Whether painting en plein air or in the studio with a photo reference, he interprets what he sees with an intent to create a beautiful piece of personal art, nothing literal.
