What’s a trip to Africa without going on safari? It was a hot, dry afternoon at Kenya’s Nakuru National Park. Our Land Rover was winding through the park and with a jerk our guide halted to observe lions lazing in tall grasses. Previously undetected so close to us, one arose and strutted to this magnificent tree! Already we could see one tail twitching from a lion draped over a thick branch. This beast stopped, did a look-about, then jumped up onto the landing pad. Shortly thereafter a napping perch was found and two tails dangled from the much cooler crown.
