Family of Grain Elevators, Hebron, North Dakota depicts three grain elevators in the small city of Hebron, North Dakota, in the central part of the state. I live in North Dakota in the summer and fall. I frequently drive out of Bismarck, where I live, to see rural and small-town scenes that I want to paint. In this watercolor, I sought to show the different but complementary sizes and colors of the grain elevators, which are the skyscrapers of the prairie and an almost organic presence in the lives of farmers and town dwellers alike.
