I was out kayaking on the Rockland Harbor when I noticed the interesting reflection and the juxtaposition of the two fishing boats – one light, one dark – docked at the marina. It was a humid summer day, just after the shower had passed. You could feel the warmth of the sun but you but you couldn’t see it. Since I did not have my phone with me, the painting was composed mostly from my memory and by referring to photos I had taken after the effect. Now that the painting is finished, I believe it has in fact captured my experience of that very day on the water – the salty air, the smell of the sea, and the feeling that the sun was almost out from behind the clouds.
