In art I seek to portray scenes that transport me to a happy place, that evoke pleasant memories, and that makes me escape in thought while seeking the beauty of the moment. Water, in particular, not only takes me to my childhood on a mediterranean island, but its reflections, sparkles and movement often hypnotize me to the point that I lose track of time.
The inspiration for “Galapagos Boat” came as I was leaving the island of Santa Cruz in Ecuador, transported in a small ferry towards the airport. The contrast of the sheer size of the old, rusty merchant boat, so peacefully floating in the pristine, clear waters was the perfect last moment to finish my adventure. I was compelled to capture that moment.
