While in Brittany, France, artists, both French and American, had the opportunity to paint "plein air" on a particular day in Dinard. Quite a few showed up and participation was both amateur and professional painters. Although I did not paint this "plein air, I walked around, observing the other artists. In one particular place on the beach, several of us were on a rampart overlooking the water and the beach. I was excited to see an "oarsman" walking below. HIs shadow created a great pattern on the stones and sand. He was unaware of our noticing him from the ramparts.
