Scores of tourists descended upon Antigua Guatemala to absorb its colors, sounds, scents and lively scenes. While admiring an old cathedral’s columns, arches and statuary, suddenly a mass of onlookers parted … and there was The Padre. Sitting at what I assumed was his customary perch, he had a bucket at his side; I thought he was asking for coins. Then I saw some fat and happy pigeons who eagerly awaited their own offering. While working on the design of this painting I moved around a few pigeons. The painting process filled me with peace and contentment.
