I started this painting by drawing circles in several sizes, by placing various plates from my kitchen cupboard onto watercolor paper. I used a watercolor pencil to draw them. I painted the circles first and then the background with transparent watercolors. Next, I marbled the painting lightly. I was not pleased with the marbling, so I marbled the painting a second time with more colors, covering part of the design heavily, but leaving the remaining area with light marbling. Now, it looked like the spheres were floating in the ocean. I was pleased with the resulting painting.
