Painting #1 is titled Watery Forms. This title seemed appropriate since it reminded me of movement and flowing water. First, I stretched 150 lb. cold-press paper. The next day I added gesso. When the gesso was dry, I added an undercoat of watercolor and later the final coat of watercolor. I enjoy painting on gesso because it provides barriers to prevent wet areas from combining with each other and creates wonderful natural-looking textural effects. For this painting, I focused on complementary colors and negative/positive forms. I had a landscape in mind when I started, but the finished product was a surprise to me. Many accidents go into creating my paintings, and it’s a very freeing way for me to paint without fear.
