This is a painting of young children on a field trip in Paris. They were learning about Notre Dame. All of them were wearing red shirts and holding hands with each other and their chaperones. I was struck not only by the color of the shirts for safety reasons, but that they were learning about a religious site coming from all ethnicities and backgrounds, each enjoying each others company. I tried to paint this watercolor in both traditional and contemporary ways with the use of swashes of color and blooms along with some realistic and more precise features. In addition, the color red was significant for its symbolism of love and sacrifice, and, black, as well, for the unknown.
