This painting was very loosely started during a plein air painting session at Centennial Park in Seattle, Washington, on the shores of Puget Sound. I also took some photos. When I saw this scene, I immediately knew I wanted to translate it into a painting using complementary blues and oranges. I lived in the Puget Sound region for over 35 years, and saw similar scenes countless times. When I created this painting, my husband and I had recently sold our longtime home, with the idea of moving out of the Puget Sound region, and I was feeling a bit nostalgic about the unique character of the area, the sights, sounds, smells that were so familiar. I hoped to capture some of that in this painting. Back in my studio, I played with composition and paint application before creating the final version of "Puget Sound Fishers"
