They may be three feet wide with leaves thick and textured like dinosaur skin, and perhaps they do exude a skunky brassica odor in the afternoon sun, but I love cabbages--both in the garden and to paint. There's a depth to this vegetable--a beautiful shape sculpted in rugged material. My goal was to get the cabbage out of its supermarket plastic and let it show off its rangy garden self, full of gorgeous texture and whorls of color.
