I met Socks while visiting with friends on their father's ranch located outside of Austin, TX. The ranch was 300 acres of densely populated pine trees, oaks and shrub. Healthy cattle roamed freely near a creek bed while wild antelope and deer flocked from one corner of the back acreage to the other. In painting 'Socks', I wanted to capture the gorgeous Texas light coming in through the barn window. I also felt like Socks was a little sad to be cooped up in the barn when she could be otherwise playing in the pasture. She felt just a little despondent to me.
